Screw Wheels

Screw wheels was both an experiment in robotics simulation using lots of rigid body constraints and an exploration in experimental keyboard game controls.
Found in real life on campus on a sunny day, a professor from the engineering department was playing with a robotic rover that had wheels laced with thin rollers. The purpose, as you can see above, is so that the vehicle can "screw" along the ground sideways.
I spent an afternoon making my own simulation in the Blender Game Engine since I was fully aware that no one would allow me to play with the real live robot, likely worth thousands of dollars.
The result was a playful game-like car simulation with controls not unlike those found in Katamari Damacy.

The left side of the car is controlled with the W-A-S-D keys with your left hand. The right side of the car is controlled with the arrow keys with your right hand. Pressing the same direction with both hands moves you in that direction. Using non-matching commands allows you to spin the car about its center.
